Cellular One to partner with Special Olympics Special Olympics recently announced a partnership with Cellular One and affiliates of SBC Wireless to raise $40 million nationwide over the next four years. Funds are to be raised through $20 donations to support year-round sports training and competition for local Special Olympics athletes, with part of the funds used to send Team USA to the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Alaska in 2001 and Special Olympics World Summer Games in Ireland in 2003. Contributors making a minimum $20 donation, and activate one of Cellular One’s service plans will receive a "Be a Hero" incentive package that includes a Nokia 5120 wireless phone. The package is available through Oct. 31, or while supplies last. Special Olympics is an international year-round program, providing sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with mental retardation. Founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, it encompasses 25 Olympic-type sports in over 150 countries.
