Registrations are now being taken at Goodsports in Aberdeen for one-day youth soccer tournament, boys and girls high school soccer leagues (starting on Nov. 26), boys and girls youth travel soccer leagues for under-9, under-11 and under-13 teams (starting on Dec. 2) and mens’ open soccer and men’s over-30 soccer leagues (starting Nov. 21). In addition, "E" license courses for soccer coaches are being held at Goodsports on Oct. 21, 27 and 28 for only $90 per person. Only the first 40 coaches will be accepted. The Central Jersey Hawks under-10 girls AAU basketball team is looking for two or three experienced players to join the team for the 2000-01 season. Must be born in 1990. Call Tom Moreno at (732) 817-1000

Goodsports USA in Aberdeen will begin new youth instructional roller hockey sessions on Nov. 2, from 5-6 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. Men’s roller hockey tournaments will begin on Nov. 12 and Dec. 16. The cost is $330 per team. Youth roller hockey tournaments will be held on Nov. 26 for squirt (12-and-under) and pee-wee (14-and-under), Dec. 9 for atom (8-and-under) and mite (10-and-under), and Dec. 6 for pee-wee. Manalapan’s Andrew Filachek is a member of the University of Virginia men’s cross country team. The Christian Brothers Academy graduate recently finished eighth at the Tribe Open Williamsburg, Va., helping the Cavaliers win the meet. Filachek, a freshman, ran the 8K course in 25:30.7 and was the Cavalier’s fourth runner. Finishing just ahead of Filachek in fifth place (25:13.6) was his high school rival, Walton Kingsbery from Red Bank Regional.

Earlier in the season Filachek was 10th at the Lou Onesty Invitational hosted by William & Mary College. He turned in a 26:24.45 there and was the team’s fourth runner. The Cavaliers won this meet as well. Next up is the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships at Raleigh, N.C., later this month. Filachek was a key member of CBA’s nationally ranked 1999 state championship cross country team which was rated by many as the school’s finest. He ran seventh at the Meet of Champions.

The Battle of Monmouth Black Widow Spiders are looking to complete their roster for the spring Monmouth-Ocean Soccer Association season. They are an U-16 team, specifically looking for players with high school experience who do not play on other travel teams. Girls must be born after July 31, 1984, to be eligible.
