T.F. library receives Karma Foundation grant

The Tinton Falls Public Library has been selected to receive a Karma Foundation Tipping Point Grant for 2001-02. The Karma Foundation is a New Jersey-based family foundation established by Sharon Karmazin, a retired public library director. The foundation makes grants to many nonprofit organizations.

The library is one of 21 chosen statewide to receive $2,500 for each of the two years. The money was applied for to assist a Teen Outreach program at the library, with a new part-time teen coordinator on the staff.

The library is planning to work closely with the Tinton Falls schools and arrange various programs during the year. For more information, call Jayne Cleveland at (732) 542-3110. The library is at 664 Tinton Ave., Tinton Falls.

Personal-Touch offers competitive salary and benefits for both full-time and part-time employees.

For additional information, call Maria at (732) 530-8880 or register in person at 10 Mechanic St., Suite 120, Red Bank.

Center needs help at libraries and agency

The Volunteer Center of Monmouth County needs volunteers for a Red Bank agency. The agency provides personal support for disadvantaged youth and seeks math and reading mentors for its tutorial program. Individuals will meet with middle school students on site once a week, 1-2 hours per week, on either Monday evenings, or Tuesday or Wednesday afternoons. Minimum age is 21 and training is provided.

Two county libraries need volunteers to work with computers, share local history, file, and other duties. English/Portuguese interpreters and shelf readers are also needed. Volunteers age 14-18 are encouraged to inquire.

The Volunteer Center is located at 191 Bath Ave., Long Branch. For more information, call the Volunteer Center at (732) 728-1927.
