Jewelry store to donate profits to WTC victims

A.H. Fisher Diamonds, Red Bank, to remember the three-month anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks, will donate all profits from items sold Dec. 11 from 4-8 p.m. to the Peter T. Milano Scholarship Fund. Additionally, all items will be marked down 20 percent during that time.

The fund was established in memory of Peter Milano, a Middletown resident and bond trader at Cantor Fitzgerald who was lost in the attack. The scholarship will provide tuition assistance to a local resident wishing to attend Christian Brothers Academy, Lincroft section of Middletown.

"We want to give people the opportunity to honor those who suffered by making a difference in a young person’s life," said Alan Fisher of A.H. Fisher Diamonds.

Nominations now being accepted for fellowships

The New Jersey Developmental Disabilities (NJDD) Council, Trenton, is currently seeking nominations for its Fellowship Program in Inclusive Education through the end of December.

The program was created to encourage, acknowledge and expand promising practices in including children with disabilities in all aspects of the public education system.

Any individual or group of individuals that encourages the inclusion of students with disabilities in all areas of school life, including academic and nonacademic activities. Nominees must demonstrate how the fellowship will be used to incorporate and/or expand ideas into everyday practice.

All nominations must be submitted by Dec. 13 with nominees receiving application packages by Jan. 15. Completed packages must be submitted by March 1, and applicant interviews will take place through April 15. Fellows will be announced May 3.

Community YMCA earns leadership awards

The Community YMCA has won three awards from the YMCA of the USA 2001 Key Leaders Awards Program. The awards were announced at the recent Key Leaders Conference in Mahwah.

Volunteer John Kilpatrick was awarded the Consulting Group 2 New Jersey State Alliance Association Volunteer Leaders Key Leader Recognition. The 80-year-old Eatontown resident teaches swimming to special-needs children ages 4-16 at the YMCA’s Red Bank branch.

The Community YMCA, Red Bank, was awarded Mission Driven Quality Promises awards for its aquatics, child care, health and fitness membership, sports, teen and volunteer programs.

Also recognized was The Community YMCA Arrowhead branch, Marlboro, in the "facility renovation" category for construction of three shelters to provide rainy-day protection for campers as well as additional program space for the Y’s year-round programming activities.

Tower Hill Choir to give holiday concert Dec. 16

The Tower Hill Choir of The First Presbyterian Church at Red Bank-Tower Hill will present part I of Handel’s Messiah in the annual Christmas concert Dec. 16 at 7 p.m.

The 65-member adult choir will be directed by Charles Harris, director of music. Guest soloists will be soprano Irene Tsakiris, mezzo-soprano Melora Love, tenor Nathan C. Davis, and Douglas Millar, baritone. An orchestra composed of area musicians will accompany the choir.

There is no admission and a free-will offering will be taken. Child care for children age 6 and younger will be provided with reservations made prior to Dec. 10.

Free seminar on job opportunities Dec. 11

Panic Relief, North Brunswick, will offer a job opportunity seminar Dec. 11 at 8 p.m. in Rumson. The free seminar will present ways to use skills and abilities to create a job of the attendee’s choice.

Register for SCAN adult classes Dec. 17-19

The Senior Citizens Activities Network (SCAN) Learning Center, Monmouth Mall, Eatontown, will hold registration for its winter 2002 semester Dec. 17-19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration is available to SCAN members only. Membership is free and is open to individuals age 50 and older.
