Artwork of Hollander, McGrath honored at Brookdale show

Friday Night Shakes by Dave McGrath captures three boys enjoying shakes at Red Bank’s Broadway Diner.

Wendy Born Hollander, Red Bank, and Dave McGrath, Long Branch, are two of the local artists whose works have garnered recognition in the 16th annual Juried Art Show sponsored by the Alumni Association at Brookdale Community College.

Hollander’s acrylic Garden Guardian received third prize while McGrath’s pen-and-ink Friday Night Shakes took honorable mention in the exhibit, which runs through June 13 at the Center for Visual Arts Gallery at the Lincroft campus.

Formerly open only to college alumni, staff, faculty and students, the exhibit was opened to all artists this year. Proceeds benefit the alumni association scholarship fund.

All three honorable mentions went to locals. In addition to McGrath, Untitled II by Beverly Hertler, Red Bank, and Soul Searching by Mare Akana, Tinton Falls, won honorable mentions. Other artists with works accepted are Joe Zarra, Ocean, Rusted Coloured; Lisa Ficarelli-Halpern, Shrewsbury, Under the Fishing Pier; Trudy Goldsmith, Oceanport, Lovers; and Walter Kasian, Shrewsbury, Self Portrait.
