Track to host first Tom Kavendek Memorial Day

Monmouth Park Racetrack, Oceanport, will host the first Tom Kavendek Memorial Day July 4 at 11:30 a.m. The event has been established to honor the memory of Tom Kavendek, Tinton Falls, who died of a heart attack at age 43.

Kavendek’s activities included the Tinton Falls Planning Board, coaching various youth teams, and organizing "just for fun" adult softball leagues.

Cost of the event is $15, with a special section in the picnic area to be designated for ticket holders. The event will feature various activities such as face painting, bands, and pony rides. Proceeds will benefit an educational fund.

Registration under way for VNACJ golf classic

The Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey, Red Bank, will hold its 16th annual golf classic Aug. 5 (rain date Aug. 8), with shotgun starts at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. The outing will be at Shore Oaks Golf Club, Farmingdale. Cost is $300 per person.

The cost covers gifts, greens fees, golf cart, locker, all meals, awards and prizes. The event will include a continental breakfast, lunch, and cocktail buffet and awards party.

A "super raffle" will include prizes such as a $2,000 travel certificate to the destination of the winner’s choice, and Titleist golf clubs. Tickets are $5, and the raffle is open to the public. Proceeds benefit programs of VNACJ.

‘Red Bank Art Walk’ slated to begin July 6

Red Bank RiverCenter will present the "Red Bank Art Walk" July 6 from 6-10 p.m. The self-guided walk will commence at the Oakland House Restaurant, 55 Oakland St., from 5-7 p.m. with free hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.

Participating Monmouth Street galleries and numbers are Art Forms, 16; Art Alliance of Monmouth County, 33; CEL-ebration Animation Art Gallery, and Inheritance Gallery, both 30; Mayfair House, 60; and Windows Gallery, 99.

Broad Street galleries and numbers are: Altomonte Imports, 90; Arrivee, 15; Gilardini Ceramica Italiana, 2; John Lawrence Gallery, 58; and Lloyd’s Gallery, 25. Beacon Fine Arts Gallery, 68 White St., and Laurel Tracey Gallery, 10 White St., are also participating.

Completing the list of galleries is Afridesia, 25 Bridge Ave.; Chetkin Gallery, 9 Wharf Ave.; Kingsley Art Gallery, The Galleria; and Maxwell & Sophie, 19 W. Front St.

‘Summer Shakespeare’ at RBR July 8-Aug. 3

Red Bank Regional High School (RBR), 101 Ridge Road, Little Silver, will offer "Summer Shakespeare — As You Like It" July 8-Aug. 3. The workshop will be held Monday-Friday from 1-4 p.m.

Cost is $250 per student. Director is Joe Russo, and staff is Matt Donnelly, Dan Peterson, Taylor White and Pat Sheperd.
