Director applauds senator’s efforts on boat speeding

The recent decision by the Boating Regulation Commission to delay deciding on the use of speed limits across New Jersey waters puts off wrestling with a pressing problem. The increasing number and speed of boats on coastal waters poses problems both for the safety of others users of the water and the environment.

Senator Leonard T. Connors Jr. (R-9) has been leading an effort to make greater use of "no wake" zones to protect the public and sensitive environmental areas.

Applied to limited areas, no wake zones can reduce the worst safety and environmental problems we are facing today. The Boating Commission should give serious consideration to endorsing Senator Connors’ efforts. The public should thank the senator for his leadership.
