Mayor, council satisfied with school officials It is with great disappointment that we, the mayor and council of Little Silver, read your editorial in the "Our View" section of the April 4 Hub. It appeared under the title of "Educators appear in no rush to inform." While it seems your paper was not satisfied with the information provided by the Board of Education, we would like to present another view. The mayor and council members have always been impressed by the efforts made by school district officials to keep the community informed. The administration and school board members have been open with school budget data as well as all information regarding the construction projects currently beginning in our community. At the annual presentation of the school budget, we have consistently been satisfied to see Board of Education efforts to control spending and keep tax increases to a minimum despite growing costs and unfunded mandates. To the best of our knowledge, we have heard nothing but praise regarding the outstanding state testing scores of our fourth- and eighth-grade students every year for as long as we can remember. The school board meetings, as well as the Borough Council meeting are all open to the public, and we invite the public to attend and ask questions. The residents of Little Silver are well served by our district officials and by the countless hours donated by board volunteers. We support our schools and the people who serve them — keep up the great work. Mayor Suzanne Castleman and the Borough Council of Little Silver |
