Audubon field trip

to Barnegat Light Jan. 17

The Monmouth County Audubon So­ciety, Red Bank, will host a field trip to Barnegat Light and the Manahawkin Wildlife Management Area Jan. 17 at noon. The event will begin at the parking lot at Barnegat Light.

Ducks that birders may see include the long-tailed duck, scoters, loons, harlequin ducks, and several varieties of eider. Attendees will explore the wildlife area in the afternoon, and will look for short-eared owls. Attendees should meet at the Dunkin’ Donuts on Route 9 north, Manahawkin, prior to 3:30 p.m.

Attendees should dress appropriately for wintry temperatures and windy con­ditions, including footwear suitable for jetty-walking. The trip is open to both Audubon members and nonmembers, and registration is recommended.
