Red Bank to fight MOM rail line
By JAMIE ROMM Staff Writer

RED BANK – Mayor Pasquale Menna said this week that he will do everything in his power to oppose a proposed Monmouth-Ocean-Middlesex (MOM) rail line that would run through the Borough of Red Bank.

“Resolutions will be passed, coordinated activities will be undertaken, but that is just the beginning,” Menna said at a May 26 Borough Council meeting. “This is just not going to happen in Red Bank. Since the unofficial word came down late last week, I have been distressed and have reached out to a number of my colleagues who have agreed to work with me in a concerted chain of elected officials in our immediate area.”

The New Jersey Transit passenger line was one of three options under consideration. The new line would go to the Red Bank junction through Shrewsbury, Eatontown, Tinton Falls, Colts Neck, Wall, Howell, Lakewood, Jackson, Dover and Lakehurst/Manchester. Trains would operate on the New Jersey Coast Line between Red Bank and Rahway and on the Northeast Corridor from Rahway to Newark and New York Penn Station. See the June 4 issue for the full story.
