Family arrested for assault at party

RUMSON — Police have arrested three members of a family on assault and alcohol-related charges after a party, according to police reports, allegedly got out of hand.

Police said they received an anonymous phone call on the night of April 23 that a large party involving under-age drinkers was going on at a Ridge Road home.

When police arrived at the Chehayl residence a fight between family members was in progress. According to police reports, Peter Chehayl, 52, was allegedly beating his son, Daniel Chehayl, 18.

After police broke up the fight, the father and his wife, Elizabeth Chehayl, 45, were arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, obstructing justice, disorderly conduct, maintaining a premises for those under the legal drinking age and maintaining a nuisance.

Peter Chehayl was also charged with domestic violence.

Daniel Chehayl was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, making terroristic threats, resisting arrest, obstructing justice, disorderly conduct and making alcohol available to those underage.

Bail for the parents was set at $20,000, the son’s at $10,000, all with no 10 percent. The family posted bail and was released pending a May 10 hearing.
