Husky Indoor Soccer, in cooperation with Kroger and 5 a Day for Better Health, will host a soccer skills competition at Matawan Regional High School as part of the National Youth Games on June 25. The competition is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 13. The event is free, and participants may register on the day of the competition at noon, on-site.

The top three finishers in the local competition will advance to the Dole sectional competition and will be eligible to qualify for the national finals in Honolulu, Hawaii. All competitors will be eligible to take the "Eat 5 Fruits and Vegetables a Day" challenge and win a trip for four to Hawaii.

The 2000 Junior Golf Competition Circuit of New Jersey will be using area golf courses to help young junior golfers experience tournament play over the summer. Competition will be in four age groups; 8-year-olds, 9-10, 11-13 and 14-17. All 8- to 13-year-olds must be accompanied by a parent or adult. Each group will participate in a nine-hole tournament. The tournaments will begin at Twinbrooks Golf Course in Neptune on June 26 at 8 a.m.

The rest of the schedule is as follows: July 6, Pine Barrens Golf Club, Jackson, 3 p.m.; July 11, Knob Hill Country Club, Manalapan, 3 p.m.; July 20, Peddie Golf Course, Hightstown, 8 a.m.; July 27, Battleground Country Club, Tennent, 10 a.m.; Aug. 3, Cranbury Golf Course, West Windsor, 2 p.m.; Aug. 15, Eagle Ridge Golf Course, Lakewood, 2 p.m.; Aug. 21, Glenwood Country Club, Old Bridge, noon; Aug. 24, Woodlake Country Club, Lakewood, 2 p.m.; and the championship on Aug. 31 at Forsgate Country Club, Monroe, 1 p.m.

Cost is $30 per participant per tournament ($70 for championship). A player must participate in at least four tournaments to be eligible for the championship.
