Bayonne High School has been chosen as the site for the annual Bayonne Cheer-off, a 2000-01 Cheer LTD CANAM Qualifier to be hosted by the Bayonne High School cheerleaders on Sunday. Cheerleading and dance teams from across the state are invited to compete for a bid to the CANAM 2001 International Cheer and Dance Championships in Myrtle Beach, S.C., in March. Denise Dillon will coordinate the regional event, which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Nationally certified judges will score the teams competing in 27 divisions, from pee-wee (grades 1-4) through high school varsity and including all-stars. Individual cheerleaders and partner stunt teams may also choose to compete for a bid to the 2001 International Cheerleader Championship and the 2001 International Partner Stunt Championship. Teams and/or individuals wishing to compete may call Cheer LTD Inc. headquarters to register at 1-800-477-8868. There is no entry fee for cheerleading and dance teams.

Goodsports USA, Aberdeen, will be holding the following events in the next few weeks: youth one-day soccer tournaments; a men’s open soccer tournament on Feb. 3, starting at 6 p.m.; a youth roller hockey winter session starting the first week in January; a Wednesday night men’s roller hockey league, starting today; and over-30 men’s league starting tomorrow; and youth travel soccer leagues, winter session II, starting Jan. 27 ($375 for eight-game schedule).
