Collection days for electronics, computers The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders has scheduled special days for the proper disposal of unwanted electronics and computers. The local location is the hazardous waste facility in Tinton Falls, Gate C, near the reclamation center on Shafto Road (south of Asbury Avenue). Drop-off sites will be open from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 22 and 29. Items that will be accepted include telephones, cameras, radios, stereos, VCRs, smaller TVs, scrap metal wire, computer cases, CPUs, keyboards, mice, monitors, scanners, printers, cables, laptops, peripherals, and desktop copiers. The following items will not be accepted: console TVs, kitchen appliances and stereo speakers. Businesses and institutions are limited to approximately 5 cubic yards (one pickup truckload). No televisions will be accepted from businesses or institutions. For larger loads or to arrange pickup from a place of business (for a modest fee), call Supreme Computer at (732) 370-4100. There will be no more drop-off days this year. Monmouth County residents (no businesses or institutions) may also take advantage of free tire disposal, for a limited time, through mid-October at the following local locations: County Building G., Shafto Road, one mile south of Asbury Avenue, Tinton Falls (do not use reclamation center entrance); and County Highway District No. 8, Union Avenue, Hazlet (off Route 36, behind Burger King). For more information, call Larry Zaayenga or Fran Metzger, (732) 431-7460; or Greg Hulse or Tom Olsen, 922-4788, ext. 651. |
