The New Jersey Veterinary Foundation is now accepting nominations for its eighth annual "Animal Hall of Fame" to honor animals deserving recognition.

The contest will feature four categories: hero, animals that have saved or preserved human life; professional, trained assistance animals; companion, family pets; and therapy, animals that serve in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, schools, prisons or other care facilities.

A new category "animal welfare" has also been added and is for individuals that have worked to improve the care and dignity of animals.

Application forms may be obtained at any veterinarian’s office, or by calling (973) 379-1100. Application deadline is Jan. 18.
