      ‘Stonebreaking’ slated at Sandy Hook May 11
           The Memoria Project, Red Bank, will hold a "stonebreaking" at the site of its monument May 11 at 11 a.m. at Sandy Hook, Gateway National Recreation Area. The memorial will be donated to victims of the Sept. 11 attacks. The ceremony will also feature an address by Richard Wells, deputy superintendent of the park.

           Several events are scheduled at Sandy Hook during May, beginning with "May Migrants Mania" May 4 at 9 a.m. at the visitor center. Birders will join a naturalist to look for migratory songbirds. Attendees should bring binoculars.

Now the borough is considering demolishing the structure to build a new one.

           The 10th annual A.J. Bruder Memorial Race will be held May 5 at 9:30 a.m. to begin at Rumson-Fair Haven (RFH) Regional High School, Ridge Road, Rumson. The "3k Community Fun Run" and "Kiddie Dashes" will also be May 5 with the fun run at 11:15 a.m., and the dashes at noon.

           Concerned residents of Wardell Circle fighting to save the trees which line the street hired their own expert to give an evaluation on what trees should remain. A report generated by Aspen Tree Expert Inc., Jackson, after an inspection of the 40 some trees stated that only three trees needed to be removed. The report also recommended that the rest can be saved, and those remaining should be pruned. The report also outlined a 10- to 20-year plan which addresses the removal of the trees over the next few years and replaced with a more appropriate species.
