The Jersey Chapter of the American Red Cross is pleased to host the Fifth Annual JCP&L Co.-Commerce Bank Rock ’n Ride Bike Tour on Sept. 8. Riders can cruise a 10-mile course (beginning at 9:30 a.m.) or peddle the 40-mile track (beginning at 9 a.m.) stretching the length of Long Beach Island. Prizes will be awarded to the bikers who collect the most pledges. The registration fee is $10 for adults and $5 for children age 12 and under. The first 75 riders to register, pay their registration fee and attend that day will receive a helmet. All proceeds will benefit the Red Cross in Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Local anglers are urged to participate in a fluke tournament this weekend out of the Leonardo State Marina in Middletown. The winner will be decided based on a combined net of five fish. There is a 250 boat limit, and the cost is $75 per boat. The tournament is being sponsored by the Community Fire Department. The Monmouth County Park System is sponsoring a bus trip to the New York Mets vs. Cincinnati Reds game at Shea Stadium July 28. The bus will leave at 10 a.m. from Thompson Park, Newman Springs Road, Lincroft. The cost is $50 per person, which includes ticket and round-trip bus fare. Preregistration is required. The Lions 3-on-3 Invitational Basketball Tournament will be held Aug. 3 and 4 at Middletown North High School. Age Brackets are as follows: boys 10-12, 13-15, and 16-19; girls 10-12, open high school bracket, and an open women’s bracket; men’s 20-29, 30-39, and 40 plus. Each team may have up to four players, is guaranteed two games, and gets a T-shirt. Registration deadline is July 28. An under 13 girls’ soccer team is looking for a few good players for the upcoming fall season. Girls must have been born between 8/1/89 and 7/31/90.
