HELEN KRETSCHMAR COLBY, 79, of Tinton Falls, died Aug. 2 at The Sycamore, Shrewsbury. Born in Philadelphia, she had resided in Tinton Falls since 1961. Mrs. Colby was a homemaker. Prior to that, she worked at Marlboro State Hospital, Marlboro, and the Mellon Institute, Pittsburgh. Her memberships included the Tinton Falls Women’s Club, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monmouth County, Eatontown. She was a competitive swimmer, placing third at the 1936 Olympic trials. She swam for the Penn Athletic Club, Philadelphia, and swam laps weekly until November. She was predeceased by her husband, H. Curtis Colby Jr., in 1993. She is survived by her son, H. Curtis Colby III of Boulder, Colo.; two daughters, Lynn C. Matson of Wall, and Nancy C. Titko of Tinton Falls; her sister, Dale Nicholas of Bensalem, Pa.; and six grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Aug. 16 at 11 a.m. at St. Anselm’s Roman Catholic Church, Tinton Falls. GLEN P. MORAVEC, 48, of Sea Bright died July 20 at home. Born in Newark, he lived in Eatontown prior to moving to Sea Bright four years ago. He was employed at Local No. 1456, New York City, since 1984, where he was also a member of its dockbuilder union. He is survived by his sister, Constance Moravec of Middletown; his son, Brian Moravec; and his daughter, Allison Moravec both of Eatontown.

RUSSELL F. TERHUNE, 49, of Middletown died July 20 as a result of injuries from a plane crash in Jackson. Born in Red Bank, he lived in Middletown most of his life. He was a sheet metal worker at Bonland, Wayne, for 29 years. He was a member of Sheetmetal Local No. 25, Carlstadt. He was an active airplane enthusiast, and enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 29 years and his daughter, Nancy Hock Terhune and Danielle Terhune of Middletown; his parents, Frederick and Wilma Terhune of Farmingdale; his brother, Earl Terhune of Jackson; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Ruth Rye of the Belford section of Middletown, Terrie Carney of San Diego, Calif., and Star and Stephen Krist of Farmingdale; and several nieces and nephews.

GEORGINA E. "JEANNE" McDERBY, 81, of Little Silver died July 21 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Harrison, she lived in Rumson and High Bridge prior to moving to Little Silver in 1972. She was a homemaker. Prior to that, she worked for Central Railroad Company of New Jersey for several years. She was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank, and was a former member of Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Rumson. She was a member of the Mayflower Society, as well as a member and past president of the Holy Cross PTA. She was predeceased by a son, Thomas Brian McDerby, in 1986; and a brother, Jack Maxham. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Andrews F. McDerby of Little Silver; her son and daughter-in-law, Timothy A. and Lori McDerby of Ovieda, Fla.; two daughters, Mary J. McDerby and Patricia A. McDerby, both of Little Silver; and seven grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank.

RALPH P. SANTORO, 75, of Middletown died Aug. 3 at home. Born in Jersey City, he moved to Middletown 30 years ago. He was a retired inspector for Hansane and Sons, Rahway, where he was employed for 12 years. Prior to that, he was a toll collector for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority for several years. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He played minor league baseball for the Jersey City Destroyers. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Santoro. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Faye Pilla Santoro of Middletown; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ralph J. and Wendy Santoro of Martinsville, Robert and Kelly Santoro of Middletown, and Michael J. Santoro of Red Bank; a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Salvatore Falcone of Middletown; a brother, Frank Sanders of Toms River; a sister, Cecilia Hendrickson of Arizona; and six grandchildren. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Memorial donations may be made to Meridian Hospice of Eatontown, 615 Hope Road, Eatontown 07724.
