      Martin Luther King Jr. observance planned

      Martin Luther King Jr. observance planned

      Fort Monmouth will hold a Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. observance service Jan. 14 at 9:30 a.m. at the post chapel. This year’s theme is "Remember! Celebrate! Act! A Day On, Not a Day Off!"

      Featured speaker will be the Rev. Audrey G. Jones of Friendly Baptist Church, the Bronx, N.Y. Gospel singer and award-winner Nancey Jackson-Johnson will also perform.

      The service is free and open to the public; however, individuals must have security clearance to access the fort. For clearance or more information, call Dawn Palmer at (732) 532-4366 or Robin Parks at (732) 427-5268 in advance.

      Two River to present ‘Spunk’ Jan. 16-Feb. 2

      The Two River Theatre Company, Red Bank, will present Spunk Jan. 16-Feb. 2 at the Algonquin Arts Theatre, 171 Main St., Manasquan. Previews are Jan. 16 and 17 at 8 p.m.

      The play consists of three short stories by Zora Neale Hurston. A guitarist, blues singer and four-actor ensemble will perform the play. Tickets range from $19-$35.

      Club to offer ‘Xeriscape Gardening’ Jan. 14

      The Navesink Garden Club will present "Xeriscape Gardening" Jan. 14 at 12:45 p.m. at the hall at Trinity Episcopal Church, White Street, Red Bank. The cost is $5 for nonmembers.

      The program will be presented by club member JoAnne Church. Gotti Kelley, club president, will give a design clinic following the presentation, and will share design tips with Barbara Reed and Suzette O’Brien.
