On July 12, the Belmar Improvement Fund, in collaboration with the Jersey Shore Running Club, will present the 27th Annual Belmar Five Mile Run. The 2003 Belmar Five Mile run is named in memory of longtime Belmar resident Johnny Cobb. In addition to being an originator of the race, Cobb had a 25-year career in the Belmar Police Department and was a graduate and supporter of St. Rose High School and promoted local sports. A portion of the race proceeds will go toward a scholarship at St. Rose in memory of Johnny Cobb. Along with the five-mile run, the event offers a fitness walk and children’s races scheduled for Friday night, July 11, both of which have continued to become more popular over the years. All events will be held in Belmar. This year’s goal, with the help of the Jersey Shore Running Club, is to attract 3,500 participants. New team categories have been added, with a selection for everyone to participate in, and there will be great post-race pasta parties. For race information, visit www.belmar5.com or call (732) 571-2162.
