The Monmouth University Women’s Basketball program is hosting its first annual Mother/Daughter-Father/
Daughter Basketball Clinic on Saturday. The clinic is designed to teach fundamental basketball skill and drills to girls ages 8-16 and parents, and to show parents how to help their daughters develop skills needed to further their basketball careers. The clinic will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fee is $60 per person, and includes personal instruction, instruction manual, lunch with the women’s basketball staff, and tickets to the Hawks’ season opener. The Central Jersey Tornados, a 14U Class A fastpitch girls softball team, is looking for a couple of dedicated, competitive players for 2004 spring/summer Pony division softball. The team will play in 8-10 tournaments, including Pony Nationals, and will host the Pony New Jersey state championship. The Kean University Coaches’ Basketball Chalk Talk will be held Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Kean’s D’Angola Gymnasium. Guest speakers will include Bobby Hurley of St. Anthony’s High School, (topic: basketball conditioning drills); Gary Waters of Rutgers University (topic: transition game); Fran Fraschilla, an ESPN TV analyst and former coach at St. John’s University, Manhattan College and the University of New Mexico (topic: set plays); Don Harnum of Rider University (topic: developing your player); Dave Calloway of Monmouth University (topic: match-up defense); Bobby Gonzalez of Manhattan College (topic: pressure defense); Harry Peretta of Villanova University (topic: motion offense; and Derreck Whittenburg of Fordham University (topic: 2-2-1 full court press).
