Monmouth bids to host 2007 Breeders’ Cup
OCEANPORT — Representatives of the Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships management team completed a five-hour tour of Monmouth Park on Thursday, as the Oceanport racetrack is being considered to host the 2007 edition of racing’s richest day.
"It was a very thorough tour and subsequent meeting that proved productive," said Bruce Garland, senior executive vice president/racing for the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. "Bob Kulina, Kathy Francis [senior vice president sales, marketing and communications] and I will make our report to George Zoffinger [president and chief executive officer]."
"The benefits of the Breeders’ Cup in the Garden State are nearly immeasurable," said Robert Kulina, vice president of thoroughbred racing and general manager of Monmouth Park. "Monmouth Park is certainly an ideal site to continue the tradition of the Sports and Exposition Authority’s commitment to bringing the best in entertainment to New Jersey."
The World Thoroughbred Championships day of racing is eight races with purses offered at $14 million. This year’s championship day will be held at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas, on Oct. 30.
