Mr. Wellman, 58, of Long Branch died June 17 at home. He resided in Rumson before moving to Long Branch 20 years ago. He was employed at West-Ward Pharmaceutical Corp., Eatontown, for several years. Mr. Wellman was employed with Teamsters Local No. 815, Englewood Cliffs. He was a member of the New Jersey National Guard. He was predeceased by his parents, Lt. Col. Walter and Barbara Bylund Wellman. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Alicia and Kevin Murphy of Shrewsbury; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Rich of Pennsylvania, and Chris and Bob Anttonen of Rumson; two grandchildren; and two nephews and nieces. A memorial Mass will be offered June 25 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, is in charge of arrangements.

J. Barbara Tilton Lowden

Mrs. Lowden, 70, of Rumson died June 13 at home. Born in Jersey City, she resided in North Middletown before moving to Rumson in 1966. Mrs. Lowden was a registered nurse, retiring after 50 years. She was active in volunteering with the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey, the American Cancer Society and the Monmouth Charity Ball Committee. She was also active in the Soroptimist International of Red Bank and the Monmouth Players theater group. Mrs. Lowden was predeceased by a sister, Irene Kenney. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Charles; two daughters, Deborah Donahue of Princeton and Gay Wadbrook of Fair Haven; a brother and sister-in-law, George L. and Claire Tilton of Houston; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at the Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven. The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements. Walter T. Drugan

Mr. Drugan, 79, of Fair Haven died June 14 at home. He was born in Trenton. He designed data communication equipment at Bell Laboratories, Whippany, for 32 years, and served as a department head, retiring in 1983. Mr. Drugan served with the U.S. Army during World War II. While at Bell, he was involved in the completion of the Distant Early Warning Line used in national defense, and he also held a number of patents in mechanical design. He was an active member of Christ Church United Methodist, Fair Haven, and served on various church committees. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He enjoyed fishing and home improvements. Mr. Drugan is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alice M. Drugan; two sons, Walter Drugan of Madison, Wis., and Robert Drugan of Madbury, N.H.; a daughter, Sharon Drugan of Madison, Wis.; a daughter-in-law; and two grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Christ Church, followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Trenton. The Worden-Hoidel Funeral Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements.

Betty Jean Hnat

Mrs. Hnat, 78, of Red Bank died June 14 at C.J.W. Medical Center, Richmond, Va. Born in Indianapolis, she resided in New Jersey for more than 40 years. Mrs. Hnat was an actuary consultant at Meeker Sharkey Associates before retiring. She enjoyed time with her family and travel. She is survived by a sister, Louise Gill; two sons, Robert Michael Hnat and Peter Paul Hnat; eight daughters, Barbara Jean Sanchez, Rosemary Margaret Soltis, JoAnn Marie Fritz, Gloria Ann Prentzel, Catherine Joyce Fetty, Veronica Mary Garbowski, Helen Louise Treacy and Mary Jane Kernstine; 29 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Virginia A. Cooper

Mrs. Cooper, 86, of Red Bank died June 15 at her home at Navesink House. Born in Passaic, she resided in Delray Beach, Fla., and Middletown prior to moving to Red Bank. She was a budget analyst at Fort Monmouth, Eatontown, retiring to raise her sons after her first husband was killed during World War II. She was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. She enjoyed golf and ballet, which she taught several years ago. She was predeceased by her first husband, Frank B. Maloney, who died during the invasion of Normandy; her second husband, Thomas W. Cooper; a sister, Mary Messich; and a brother, Robert Malkmus. Mrs. Cooper is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Frank J. and Sally Maloney of Lakewood, and John T. Maloney of Brielle; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Samuel R. Ewaniuk

Mr. Ewaniuk, 65, of Red Bank died July 15 in Red Bank. He resided in Chicago before moving to Red Bank eight years ago. He was a maintenance worker at DeForest Inc., Elmhurst, Ill., before his retirement. He enjoyed time with his family, fishing and hunting. He was predeceased by a brother, Walter Ewaniuk, in 2000. Mr. Ewaniuk is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary Connor Ewaniuk; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Howard Geraci-Gates of Red Bank; a sister, Gloria Billick of Chicago; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Carroll, 77, of Middletown died June 16 at home. He resided in the Middletown area most of his life. He was a self-employed certified public accountant. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a charter member of the Middletown Elks, Middletown Lions Club, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2179, Port Monmouth section of Middletown. He was also an ex-township clerk in Middletown, and former member of the Township Committee. He was predeceased by a brother, James Carroll. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Adrienne Herr Carroll; a daughter, Kelly Ann Carroll of Middletown; three sons, Kevin Sean Carroll and Charles John Carroll, both Middletown, and John Christopher Carroll of Red Bank; and a sister, Patricia Schweizer of Middletown. Marguerite E. Chrostowski

Mrs. Chrostowski, 70, of Freehold died June 12 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had resided there before moving to Freehold seven years ago. She was a food service manager for the New York City Public Schools, retiring in 1996. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold; a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Columbiettes of Knights of Columbus Council No. 293; and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5806 Auxiliary, all of Brooklyn, N.Y. Mrs. Chrostowski was predeceased in 1994 by her husband, Michael A. Chrostowski. Surviving are a son, Michael F. Chrostowski of Monroe, N.Y.; a daughter, Ann Marie Samojedny of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren; a niece, Kathleen Damore of Freehold; two nephews, Kevin Madigan of Shrewsbury and John Madigan of Brooklyn; two great-nieces; and three great-nephews. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by interment at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, N.Y.
