Peter Smyth, CEO of Greater Media Inc., parent company of Greater Media Newspapers, has been elected vice chairman of the Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) board of directors. He has actively served on the RAB board for the past five years. He will begin his newly elected duties Jan. 1.
Smyth joined Greater Media in 1986 as general manager of WMJX-FM in Boston and held various executive positions until his appointment in October 2000, as president and chief operating officer. In March 2002, he was named as Greater Media’s president and chief executive officer.
Radio Ink, a widely respected industry publication, has selected him as one of the 40 “Most Powerful People in Radio” in 2001, 2003 and 2004.
Doris & Ed’s Seafood Restaurant, Highlands, owned by Jim Filip, was recently chosen to receive the Restaurant of the Year Award from the New Jersey Restaurant Association (NJRA) at a Nov. 29 black-tie event. The event is open to the public and will be at 6 p.m. at Mayfair Farms, 41 Eagle Rock Parkway, West Orange. The award is given to a New Jersey restaurateur for lifetime contributions to the restaurant industry and for support of the community. Filip has been at Doris & Ed’s 26 years. The establishment was the first New Jersey restaurant to receive a James Beard Award. He is also involved with the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, as an adviser for the Culinary Education Center of Monmouth County, and was a humanitarian honoree of CPC Behavioral Healthcare. Genova, Burns & Vernoia, New York City, and Livingston, has announced the opening of its new Red Bank office at 331 Newman Springs Road, and the formation of its commercial real estate and redevelopment law practice group. The group will provide legal services with regard to the acquisition, sale, leasing, financing or redevelopment of real property. The group will be based in the firm’s Red Bank and Livingston offices, and directed by attorney Jeffrey R. Rich.
So Pretty, 794 Broad St., Shrewsbury, will commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month during October by donating a portion of its October sales to the international Young Survival Coalition (YSC). The YSC is a network of breast cancer survivors and supporters dedicated to the concerns and issues regarding young women and breast cancer. The Red Bank Networking Group will hold Visitors Day Oct. 28 from 7-8:30 a.m. at the Broadway Grill, Broad and Monmouth streets, Red Bank. The Monmouth/Ocean chapter of the New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners will hold its annual holiday auction Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. at the Sheraton Eatontown, Route 35, Eatontown.
