Public should attend candidates forum

Although the presidential campaign season is upon us again and we are becoming inundated with phone calls, junk mail, and — soon to come — media sound bites, our Monmouth County elections also deserve our attention.

The Monmouth County League of Women Voters is providing the public with an excellent opportunity to learn about the candidates for Monmouth County freeholder and sheriff, and at the same time to learn more about the power and the duties of the county freeholders and the county sheriff.

The League will hold an open forum for all the Monmouth County candidates for freeholder and sheriff.

It will be held Oct. 26 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at MAN building, room 105 at Brookdale Community College. Brookdale is on Newman Springs Road, about 1 mile west of the Garden State Parkway.

All the candidates will have an opportunity to present their views and a question-and-answer period will follow. Doris Weisberg, League of Women Voters in Mercer County, will be the moderator.

The public is urged to attend in order to be part of the informed electorate of Monmouth County.

The League of Women Voters is a multi-issue organization whose mission is to encourage the active participation of citizens in government and to influence public policy through education and advocacy.

Please come to this important event and be sure to vote Nov. 2.

Esther Greenberg
