      Program on domestic violence July 12

      The health office of Brookdale Community College’s Health, Newman Springs Road, Lincroft section of Middletown, will sponsor “Domestic Violence: Breaking the Cycle”” July 12 and 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Warner Student Life Center.

      Presenter will be author Dwayne D. Birch. He will offer strategies on breaking the cycle of domestic abuse and accessing resources. A complimentary lunch will be provided. Preregistration is required. To register or for more information, call (732) 224-2788.

      The college will welcome Helene Stapinski, author of “Five Finger Discount: A Crooked Family History,” July 26 from 5-9 p.m. at Room 105 in the MAN building. Stapinski will discuss the realities of growing up in Jersey City, and the drama and comedy of living in a household in which petty crime was a way of life. The presentation is free.

      Sessions on hospice care to begin July 26

      Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey (VNACJ), Red Bank, has announced it will offer “Understanding Caring: Understanding Hospice” for individuals that would like to become hospice volunteers and individuals interested in the hospice philosophy.

      The free, three-session course will be July 26, and Aug. 2 and 9 from 1-4 p.m. at the VNACJ hospice program headquarters at 1100 Wayside Road, Tinton Falls. VNACJ hospice team members will teach the sessions, and subjects include the grief process, family dynamics, spirituality and pain management.
