      The Oceanport United Methodist Church will hold a flea market at 50 Main St. on Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

      The rain date is Oct. 15.

      The Fair Haven PTA Harvest Fest will be held Oct. 16, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Knollwood School parking lot, Hance Avenue.

      The event will feature outdoor activities, games, music, pony rides, a petting zoo, a candy sand booth, a clown, an apple-pie eating contest and a pumpkin decorating contest.

      The Surfers’ Environmental Alliance (SEA) will name Fair Haven attorney Alfred Ferguson its Kahuna of the Year at the annual awards dinner Oct. 8 at Neil’s On the Beach restaurant in the Allenhurst Beach Club, Allen Avenue.

      Tickets to the dinner are $55 and include dinner, cash bar, surfing movie, live music, surfboard auction and awards ceremony.

      Tickets will be available at the door and reservations can be made by calling Andrew Mencinsky, SEA president, at (732) 804-4096.

      Assemblymen Michael J. Panter

      and Dr. Robert L. Morgan (D-Monmouth/Mercer) announced that Verizon has agreed to repay the Fair Haven school district a total of $12,400 for utilities that were inadvertently overcharged after the service was canceled by the district.

      Bayard Rustin, a Quaker who helped Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. organize the historic 1963 March on Washington, D.C., is the subject of the documentary “Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin,” to be presented at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21, in the Shrewsbury Quaker Meetinghouse on Route 35 at Sycamore Avenue, Shrewsbury.       The Oceanport school district received two $500 grants from the ExxonMobile Educational Alliance program for books and materials for the Wolf Hill School library and improvements to the school’s garden, which is used for science instruction.

      The Oceanport Hook and Ladder Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary will host a chance gift auction on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

      Tickets will be pulled at 2:30 p.m. and all proceeds will help purchase equipment for the Hook & Ladder firemen and Explorers.
