      New works by David French

      “Slipping Glimpster” by David French
“Slipping Glimpster” by David French An exhibit of new works by painter/sculptor David French is at Beauregard Fine Art gallery in Rumson.

“David French: New Paintings and Sculpture” runs through Jan. 19 at the gallery, located at 109 East River Road. Hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Since 1981 French has been creating abstract paintings and sculpture that dialogue with one another. His large-scale paintings of oil and aluminum pigment on linen can feel muscular, while on the other hand his steel sculpture can feel almost ethereal. He is a master of expanding the use of materials and exploring spatial relationships in both media.

French’s work has evolved through the years: he began his career exploring abstract expressionism in mixed media. In the 1990s he began to incorporate found objects and collage elements in the paintings. Likewise, his sculpture took on a new direction, adding color and organic shapes inspired by nature.

French, of Colts Neck, has had numerous exhibitions and his artwork is in the permanent collection of The University of Pittsburgh, among others.
