Volunteers sought for March 18 ‘Teen Night’

  • The Volunteer Center, Long Branch, is seeking aides for a Shrewsbury organization that assists young people with disabilities for its “Teen Night” March 18 and April 15 from 7-9 p.m. Volunteers are also needed for computer classes. Volunteers are needed to help children spell and stay focused (no specific knowledge of computers is required). Assistance is needed through April at either 10:30-11:30 a.m. or 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

    Volunteers are needed to assist at a multiple sclerosis walk April 17 from 7 a.m. and traveling through Sandy Hook, Belmar, and Freehold. Help is needed with set up, registration, breakfast, lunch, and cleanup. A Long Branch office needs several volunteers to help with clerical duties on an ongoing basis weekdays (flexible hours). Activities include data entry, fundraising, and marketing projects.

    A Long Branch food pantry needs assistance Fridays from noon-3 p.m. Assistance is needed with food orders, paper work and shelf stocking. Several volunteers are needed to serve on an area theater’s committee for a wine tasting event in June. Help is needed with logistics, silent auction, entertainment, raffles, and other duties. An Eatontown-based hospice seeks volunteers to assist with clerical duties, work with patients, visit patients, help with crafts, music, and pet therapy.

    A Monmouth County blood center seeks volunteers for blood drives weekdays and evenings in all areas of the county. Help is also needed at mobile drives during the week from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. A Middletown area organization that assists children with disabilities is seeking help for its sports activities program Saturdays from 9:30-11 a.m. An organization that assists the homeless is in need of volunteers to assist residents with computers and to play board games, and to mentor. Individuals are also needed to help prepare and serve meals (must have a valid New Jersey license).

    A Tinton Falls hospice is seeking volunteers to Monday-Friday from 8:30j a.m.-4:30 p.m. Especially needed are individuals with data-entry skills. Hours are flexible. A Long Branch after-school tutorial program needs volunteers to provide individual and/or group tutoring in math, science, computer training, reading, and writing on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5-7 p.m. Help is also needed for cooking and arts and crafts on Fridays from 5-7 p.m. The program also needs a grant writer. A Monmouth County senior center seeks individuals with computer knowledge to teach basic computer skills and to instruct seniors in Internet and e-mail usage any Tuesday or Thursday (flexible hours).

    A society that assists individuals with special needs is seeking volunteers for its bike tour May 21 from 5 a.m.-6 p.m. The tour will be from Sandy Hook through South Jersey. Groups of volunteers are needed for registration and parking and to help serve breakfast and lunch. T-shirts and lunch will be provided. A Middletown area assisted-living agency needs volunteers to accompany seniors (some disabled) on daily bus trips to area stores and help with shopping needs Monday-Friday from 10-11:30 a.m. Also needed are companions for Friday scenic rides. A national society that aids children with disabilities is in need of help in the Oakhurst area. Volunteers will assist with data entry of payables, enter data in Excel, and with filing Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
