On Campus

Coastal Carolina University, Conway, S.C., announced the following local students named to the dean’s list for the fall semester:

Susan M. Arnault of Ocean;

Daniel M. Johnson of Red Bank; and

Ashley A. Pavlis of Shrewsbury.

Local seniors at Ranney School, Tinton Falls, recently earned the designation of AP Scholar from the College Board in recognition of exceptional achievement on the college-level advanced placement program (AP) exams. Students took the exams in May. Qualifying for the AP Scholar With Distinction Award was Alex Lopyan, Long Branch. Students qualified for the award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of the exams. The AP Scholar With Honor Award also went to Lindsay Minerva, Fair Haven, for achieving an average of at least 3.25 on all exams, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more exams. Named AP Scholars for completing three or more exams with grades of 3 or higher were Samantha Collado, Shrewsbury; Lauren Daniels, West Long Branch; and Angelica Jannone, Red Bank.

Rowan University, Glassboro, announced that two local students were recently inducted into the Golden Key International Honour Society for the fall semester. The Society provides academic recognition to college juniors and seniors in the top 15 percent of the student’s class. Area students inducted were Nicole M. Furrevig of Red Bank and Sonia A. Valentim of Long Branch.

Alexis Sowuleski, Little Silver, recently presented her research “Bull’s Eye!: Does Contrast Affect Accuracy?” at the 2005 American Junior Academy of Science symposium in Washington, D.C., in late February. Sowuleski is a junior at High Technology High School, Lincroft section of Middletown. She discussed her research project with scientists from around the world during the poster presentation ceremony, and toured various scientific facilities in Washington, D.C. Students qualifying for attendance at the symposium had to compete and place in the top three at the 2004 New Jersey Academy of Science science fair.

Peter VanDeventer, Eatontown, was recently named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind., where he is a member of the university’s first-year studies program. He is a 2004 graduate of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, Rumson.

Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pa., announced the following local students named to the dean’s list for the fall semester:

Helen P. Britz, Rumson, a 2001 graduate of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, Rumson, and daughter of Jeanne and David Britz;

Marianna H. Christophe, Fair Haven, a 2001 graduate of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, and daughter of Martha and David Christophe;

Arthur A. Hughes IV, Rumson, a 2001 graduate of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, and son of Deborah and Arthur Hughes;

Emily V. Izbicki, Little Silver, a 2001 graduate of Red Bank Regional High School, Little Silver, and daughter of Anita and James Izbicki;

Lauren E. O’Connor, Little Silver, a 2002 graduate of Red Bank Catholic High School, and daughter of Denise and Keith O’Connor;

Justin J. Poppiti, Rumson, a 2002 graduate of Lawrenceville School, and son of Marie Keeley and Edward Poppiti;

Benjamin T. Smith, Fair Haven, a 2004 graduate of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, and son of Lindsay and Russell Smith; and

Sarah E. Stout, Rumson, a 2004 graduate of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, and daughter of Dawn and William Stout.
