The Deep Cut Orchid Society’s (DCOS) monthly meeting will be held on July 12 at 7 p.m. at the Monmouth Reform Temple, 332 Hance Ave., Tinton Falls. The workshop will be on how to buy an orchid. DCOS meets on the second Tuesday of every month except August. Each meeting features a show table of flowering orchids grown by members. There will be refreshments, a plant raffle, and a door raffle. The Oceanport Library, at the corner of Monmouth Boulevard and Myrtle Avenue, will host the musical “Cool Cats to the Rescue” by The Cat’s Pajamas on July 12 from 7 to 8 p.m. Children can wear their pajamas and are asked to bring a blanket. The concert is scheduled to take place outdoors, but in the event of rain, the festivities will be held inside the library. For more information, call (732) 229-2626.

The Red Bank Public Library is holding a free summer reading program for children in grades prekindergarten to sixth grade. To participate, children check out five books, print out the authors’ names and the titles of the books in a log, and turn the log in to the library. For every five books read, children earn a weekly raffle ticket and an invitation to an awards party at the end of the summer.

On Friday, Aug. 5, YoungLife of Monmouth County will host a fund-raising benefit where guests will be treated to an intimate dinner at their choice of one of 10 area homes before gathering at a private waterfront garden in Rumson for dessert and dancing “Under the Stars.” Tickets are $75 per person and are on sale until July 24.
