Notes Around Town Five openings remain for the preschool program for 3- and 4-year-olds at Red Bank Regional High School. The program begins in October and runs through June. The class will be under the direction of child development teacher Susan Eads. High school students in the Preschool Lab class will be planning the daily schedule and supervising the children during activities. Children must be toilet trained. The class runs from 9:15-10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and includes circle time, arts and crafts, music, gym, show and tell, letter/sound recognition, large and small motor skills development and socialization. To contact Eads, call (732) 842-8000, ext. 331. ***** The Little Silver Borough Council postponed discussion of a proposal for an age-restricted townhome development on Eastview and Oceanport avenues by Kalian Cos. and rescheduled the matter for Oct. 3 at 8 p.m. at borough hall. ***** The Fair Haven PTA will host Harvest Fest on Oct. 16 from 1-5 p.m. at the Knollwood School parking lot on Hance Road. The event will feature outdoor activities, games, music, pony rides, a petting zoo, a candy sand booth, a clown, an apple-pie-eating contest and a pumpkin-decorating contest. ***** The Monmouth Reform Temple, 332 Hance Ave., Tinton Falls, will host a “Road Show” type appraisathon and auction on Oct. 16, from 1-5 p.m. It will be a great opportunity to get verbal appraisals, attend workshops, list items for sale on eBay, sell or buy items at an auction, and purchase refreshments at the cafe. Advance admission prepaid by Oct. 1 is $10 and includes two event tickets. At-door admission is $10 for one event ticket. Each ticket can be used for one appraisal, or one workshop, one eBay listing, or one entry item in auction. Extra tickets can be purchased for $5 each (maximum of three appraisals, four workshops, three listings, three auction items). For information, call (732) 747-8278. ***** Monmouth Reform Temple (MRT) in Tinton Falls will celebrate Sukkot with a concert of contemporary jazz with an Israeli twist performed by Seeds of Sun, Israeli Jazz quintet on Sunday, Oct. 23, at 4 p.m. The concert will be followed by Consecration with dinner in the Temple Sukkah. Cost is $15 per person, children under 16 come as guests. The event is sponsored by the MRT Brotherhood and Sisterhood. Contact the temple office to make reservations at (732) 747-9365 or pay at the door. ***** Forrestdale School in Rumson has received a $500 grant from the ExxonMobile Educational Alliance program to support the school’s Rumson Enrichment Program. Richard Dodd of Rumson Exxon, 27 W. Front St., said he worked with school officials to secure the grant, which is one of 4,000 available to schools across the country in communities served by Exxon or Mobile stations. ***** On Thursday, Sept. 29, starting at 7 p.m., Red Bank Regional High School will hold its annual parents’ night. There will be a display of masks created by craft teacher Tracy Pushko’s class, inspired by the contrast of New Orleans, before and after Hurricane Katrina. Students created a Mardi Gras mask, half of which illustrates the color and vibrancy of the city before the hurricane, and the other half, utilizing only a spectrum of black and white, the devastating effects of the hurricane. ***** Writer’s Ink, the resident poets’ group at the Red Bank Public Library, will sponsor two poetry readings during the fall season. The first will take place on Oct. 22 at 1:30 p.m. featuring New Jersey poet Lois Marie Harrod reading from and signing copies of her new collection “Put Your Sorry Side Out.” The second reading will be held on Nov. 12 at 1:30 p.m. when the poets of Writer’s Ink will present “War, Peace and Political Poetry” to mark Veterans Day. Open readings and refreshments will follow the scheduled portions of both programs, which are free and do not require registration. The library is located at 84 W. Oxley last week announced the addition of six bilingual officers to the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff’s Officer Jose Medina, a native of Caguas, Puerto Rico, and Sheriff’s Officer Samuel Hernandez, a native of Santa Tecla, El Salvador, both current residents of Red Bank, are among the six new officers.
