Songwriters bring their music to Riverside Gardens Park

The Songwriters in the Park series hosted by Brookdale Public Radio takes up residence at Riverside Gardens Park on West Front Street in Red Bank on Friday evenings for the summer.

+ June 9 - Richard Julian, guitarist/vocalist, has a poet's eye for detail, a tunesmith's ear for melodies, a playful wit and a knowing voice, and is debuting on Manhattan Records/EMI with "Slow New York." www.richardjulian.com.

+ June 16 - Chris Harford, (Chocodog Records) is a singer and songwriter whose songs are whimsical but insightful on love and relationships. www.chrisharford.com.

+ June 23 - Willie Nile, who debuted more than 25 years ago, has been compared to Springsteen and Dylan and continues to write and perform heartfelt music on his own uncompromising terms. www.willienile.com.

+ July 7 - Mark Erelli (Signature Sounds Records) is a young singer/songwriter who writes and sings soulfully of life against a backdrop of world events. www.markerelli.com.

+ July 28 - Steve Forbert (Rolling Tide Records) has had a career spanning several decades and popular music shifts and is known for his trademark warm vocal rasp. www.steveforbert.com.

+ Aug. 4 - Rhett Miller of Old 97s (Verve Forecast Records), frontman and main songwriter of the hard-charging rock 'n' roll quartet the Old 97s, uses song to address complex emotional issues. www.rhettmiller.com and www.old97s.com.
