A Central Jersey Hawks girls 17-year-old basketball team is looking to add girls to its current roster for the upcoming spring season. The team will be playing in major college showcases. The Lincroft Knights 12U travel baseball team is looking for competitive players for fall season Saturday games. Season starts the last Saturday in August. Players must be born after April 30, 1994. The travel team will be working toward a tournament next year in Cooperstown. Tryouts are on Wednesdays and Fridays at 5 p.m. at the Lincroft Little League Field 4. Residency is not required. The Matawan-Aberdeen Recreation Volleyball League in Monmouth County is now forming its fall 2006 indoor season. League nights are Tuesday evenings from 6 to 10 p.m. The B1 league is for advanced players (B-BB or above) and the B2 league is for novice to intermediate-level players. Space is limited. The fall season will begin on Sept. 12 with a coordination and tryout evening to select players to teams. The B1 tryout will be held 6:30-8 p.m. and the B2 tryout will be held 8-9:30 p.m. Detailed league information and registration for the tryout is on Web site www.njvb.com/clubs/hovb. The league will begin regular league play on Sept. 19.

The 14U Monmouth Maniacs are looking for strong, serious, experienced players that have the drive to work and play hard. The Kimisis Tis Theotokou Orthodox Church's Chapter 517 of Holmdel is sponsoring its fifth annual golf tournament on Monday, Oct. 2. The event is being hosted in order to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House, Cancer Research Fund of the Fifth District, and the chapter's scholarship fund. The outing will be held at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Lakewood, with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start. Registration begins at 11 a.m. with a barbecue lunch at noon and a cocktail hour and awards banquet beginning at 7 p.m. Reservations to play are $200 per golfer, which includes greens fees, golf cart, locker room facilities, lunch, cocktail hour and awards banquet. The 10U Jersey Shore Hurricanes made it to the championship game at the Fair Haven Summer Heat tournament. Even though they lost to a very good team from Monroe, N.Y., the coaches and parents of the team remained very proud of all the boys - Corey Martin, Mason Gaetano, Vince Gallo, Johnny Johnson, Kevin Reilly, Austin Teri, Chris Tierney, Mike Barber, Sam Lorenzo, Matt Kerdewan, Brendan Corrigan, Adam Sheridan and Bruce Strickland.

Jersey Coast Unlimited Junior Football's Northern Division seeks additional teams from Ocean and Monmouth counties. This is a long-established unlimited weight tackle football league for grades 1-8 and includes both private and public middle school teams. Minimum roster sizes are very flexible, and you can enter as few as one team in this league. Both existing and start-up programs are welcome. Information is available to assist in the formation of new teams, including insurance, equipment and uniform purchases.
