The Jersey Shore Hurricanes won the USABL 14/15U Summer League Championship. On the back of a complete-game, 16-strikeout performance from pitcher Jake Kalish, the Hurricanes beat the Old Bridge Colts, 13-4. Behind the solid hitting of catcher Connor Grant, outfielder Colin Lang and Kalish, the Canes scored 11 runs in the sixth and seventh innings to seal the win. Their infield defense was led by CJ Brush, Connor Stambaugh, Bobby West, Nick Hubbard and Grant. The outfield consisted of Bobby Maggs, Glenn Mannino, Steven Wikoff, Eric Holley, Lang and Kalish. The pitching staff included Cody O'Malley, Wikoff, Kalish, Lang and Grant. The Hurricanes finished the season with an 11-2 record. All of the players on the team are from Red Bank Regional High School.

The Fair Haven cross country team will host a series of Thursday evening youth cross country meets for Monmouth and Ocean County athletes in four divisions: second grade and under, third and fourth, fifth and sixth, and seventh and eighth. The meets will be held at Fair Haven fields at 4 p.m. each Thursday from Sept. 21 through Oct. 26.

A Monmouth Women's Rec Basketball League will be held on Sunday nights, beginning Oct. 1 and running through March. Players must be 21 years old. A charity softball game benefiting the American Cancer Society will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Normandy Park, Middletown. The "Fighting Accountants" of WithumSmith+Brown, Certified Public Accountants and Consultants, will play against the "Radiohead Jocks" of G Rock Radio 106.3. No entrance fee; food and beverages will be sold; cash donations will be accepted. All proceeds will go to the charity.

The Central Jersey Hawks girls U17/U16 team seeks players. This is a highly competitive, high-exposure team. They are seeking new players to add to the current roster for the upcoming AAU season to fill spots due to seniors leaving. They play in many college showcases. For those men and women, 18 years and older who wish to become a certified basketball official for high school, middle school or recreational leagues the Central East Jersey Basketball officials organization is now accepting applications for their fall clinic. The class begins Sept. 21 and runs from 7-9 p.m. on most Tuesdays and Thursdays through Nov. 21, with classroom training at East Brunswick High School and on-court training at St. Peter's High School in New Brunswick.

The Matawan-Aberdeen Recreation Volleyball League in Monmouth County is now forming its fall 2006 indoor season. League nights are Tuesday evenings from 6 to 10 p.m. The B1 league is for advanced players (B-BB or above) and the B2 league is for novice to intermediate-level players. Space is limited. The fall season will begin on Sept. 12 with a coordination and tryout evening to select players to teams. The B1 tryout will be held 6:30-8 p.m. and the B2 tryout will be held 8-9:30 p.m. Detailed league information and registration for the tryout is on Web site www.njvb.com/clubs/hovb. The league will begin regular league play on Sept. 19.
