Bruce George Whitenack

Mr. Whitenack, 81, of Tinton Falls, died Sept. 21. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Orange, prior to moving to Tinton Falls in 1956. He was a manager of human resources at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, retiring in 1986. He served with the U.S. Navy as an Ensign stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury. He volunteered at the Tinton Falls Public Library, and enjoyed playing bridge, his dogs, reading and walking. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert; and a grandson, Kyle Michael. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Katherine; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce G. and Joanne Whitenack Jr., John C. and Cheryl Whitenack, and Douglas M. and Lynda Whitenack; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at The Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury. Arrangements were by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. Peter Kusulas

Mr. Kusulas, 65, of Fair Haven, died Sept. 6. Born in Perth Amboy, he resided in Tottenville, N.Y.; Glen Ellyn, Ill.; and Colts Neck; prior to moving to Fair Haven. He was an electrical engineer and engineering manager at Bell Labs, Naperville, Ill., later Lucent Technologies, Holmdel, from 1963-2000, and began work on the earliest digital telephone system designed for customer premises. Following retirement, he chaired the Borough of Fair Haven Long Range Planning Committee, and was a member of the mayor's World War II Monument and Finance Committees. HE is survived by his wife, Rose Greco; two brothers, Elias Kusulas of Naperville, Ill., and Theodore Kusulas of Whitestone, N.Y.; two nieces; and a nephew. Arrangements were by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. Robert Acerra

Mr. Acerra, 64, of Middletown, died Oct. 2 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Before his retirement in 2006, Mr. Acerra worked in several restaurants in Monmouth County and then opened the first of five Luigi's Famous Pizza Restaurants in 1969. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Middletown. He was instrumental in forming the Boys Youth Athletic Association (BYAA), Middletown. Mr. Acerra is survived by his wife, Diane Healey Acerra; two sons, Robert Acerra Jr. and Domenick Acerra, both of Middletown; three stepsons, Glen, Brian and Eric School, all of Middletown; two brothers, Ralph Acerra of Freehold and Joseph Acerra of Tinton Falls; a sister, Joan Marangello of Middletown; and five grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, both in Middletown.
