Three west side grocery stores robbed

RED BANK - A 22-year-old homeless man was arrested last week in connection with the robbery of a grocery store on Drs. James Parker Boulevard.

According to police, the robbery reportedly took place on Oct. 3 around 9 p.m. when a clerk working at the Gonzalez Grocery store reported that a white male entered the store and brought a number of items to the counter.

When the clerk opened the register, the suspect allegedly pushed her out of the way, grabbed cash from the register and fled on a bicycle.

After investigation by Investigator Michael Frazee and Detective Eliot Ramos, Kevin Kierman was arrested on Oct. 16.

Municipal Court Judge William Himelman set bail at $17,500, and Kierman was later transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold Township.

In another incident at Gonzalez Grocery, Red Bank police are still seeking information concerning the Oct. 8 armed robbery of the store in which an unidentified black male reportedly pointed a handgun at the store clerk and demanded that she leave the store.

The clerk left the store as instructed and the subject took money from the cash register.

This subject was reportedly seen fleeing the store on foot, and was last seen running on River Street toward Shrewsbury Avenue.

The suspect is described between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin to medium build, wearing black pants and a black, hooded sweatshirt.

Also under investigation is an incident that occurred on Oct. 12 at 10:22 p.m., in which an unknown black male, approximately 6 feet tall, thin build, dressed in black with a black baseball hat, reportedly entered the Juquila Grocery Store, Shrewsbury Avenue, and began yelling at the clerks who then fled the store.

This subject allegedly attempted to gain access to the cash register but was unsuccessful. This subject fled on foot on Shrewsbury Avenue heading toward DeForrest Avenue.
