Audubon walk, meeting slated during December

The Monmouth County Audubon Society will host a bird walk at Sandy Hook Dec. 2 beginning at 9 a.m. at the parking lot at the visitor center.

The trip will be led by several society members. Birds that may be seen include several species of ducks, and hawks. The free trip is open to both members and nonmembers. Participants should wear comfortable shoes and bring binoculars and field guides.

The society's next meeting will be Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, White Street, Red Bank. The public is welcome to attend. Guest speaker will be wildlife photographer Kevin Karlson presenting "Birding Made Simpler." He is a coauthor of the new book "The Shorebird Guide." The program details how to use impression-based physical characteristics rather than scientific plumage analysis to identify birds.
