‘Go Red’ pajama party kits now available

The American Heart Association (AHA), North Brunswick, is urging the public to “Go Red for a Day” on Feb. 3, the third annual National Wear Red Day for Women. The day is designed to bring attention to cardiovascular disease, the No. 1 killer of women.

The community is encouraged to wear an article of red clothing, a tie, hat, or other item to focus attention on cardiovascular disease. The AHA also encourages women to hold sleepovers Feb. 3, and the first 100 people to call the AHA state office requesting a pajama party kit will receive a free “Go Red for Women” tote bag filled with ideas for a pajama party.

The kit includes invitations, “Go Red for Women” information booklets, and red dress pins, pajama party ideas, and heart healthy recipes.

For the kit or more information on Wear Red Day, call the AHA at (732) 821-2610.

Hallelu band to play at Shabbat service

The sounds of singing and dancing will fill the sanctuary of Monmouth Reform Temple, Tinton Falls, on Jan. 27 when the temple hosts a Shabbat Hallelu band.

The service starts at 7:45 p.m. and includes Cantor Gabriel Clissold and a band of guitar, keyboards, drums, clarinet and flute.

According to the Talmud and Bible, the Shabbat Hallelu draws inspiration from Jewish practices in ancient times when spontaneous instrumental music, accompanied by singing and dancing, was an integral part of Jewish worship.

After the destruction of the second Temple of Jerusalem by the Romans, the cantor said, music was silenced as an act of mourning.

Reform Jews were the first major religious movement to allow instrumental music back into synagogue worship, Clissold said.
