Monmouth County DOVIA (Directors of Volunteers in Agencies) will award a $750 scholarship to a high school senior from Monmouth County who has demonstrated a commitment to community service. The Oceanport United Methodist Church on Main Street will host a pancake breakfast on March 11 from 8 to 11 a.m. The breakfast menu will include pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee, tea and juice; tickets in advance are $4 and at the door $5. The Oceanport Board of Education has announced that kindergarten registration for Oceanport and Sea Bright students will be held in the Wolf Hill auditorium on March 24. In order to register, each child must be 5 years old on or before Oct. 1. Registration for students whose last names begin with A through L will be between 9 and 11 a.m. and registration for students whose last names begin with M through Z will be between 1 and 3 p.m.

The parent or guardian must bring the following to registration: Official birth certificate with the raised seal; record of immunizations; complete physical before the start of school; social security number; and proof of residence. Forms may be obtained and completed prior to the visit on registration day by visiting the Web site at www.oceanport.k12.nj.us.

Students from the Knollwood School in Fair Haven are scheduled to host a Senior Celebration at the Youth Center on Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. The students will be sharing some of their writing with area senior citizens.

The Red Bank Chapter of Deborah Hospital Foundation is sponsoring a bus trip to Trump’s Taj Mahal Casino-Hotel in Atlantic City on Thursday, Feb. 16. The bus will depart from Shrewsbury Plaza, at the corner of Route 35 and Shrewsbury Avenue at 9 a.m. and return at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $22 with a casino give-back of $20, plus $5 toward food. On Friday, Feb. 24, The Cares Club at Red Bank Regional High School in Little Silver will sponsor its fourth Annual AIDS Benefit from 7 to 9 p.m. Students from RBR will share their talents in the form of song, dance and spoken word, as they help to bring awareness to the important issues surrounding AIDS. A $5 donation is suggested at the door, and all of the proceeds will benefit The Center in Asbury Park and St. Clare’s Home for Children.

Red Bank Catholic High School students Minnel Meglioranza and Melissa Mielke raised approximately $1,500 for 180, Turning Lives Around, the local nonprofit organization that helps women and children put their lives back together after suffering abuse.

The two students sold jewelry during lunch periods and invited others to donate art supplies to support 180’s Amanda’s Easel Art Therapy Program, designed to create a support system to help both children and their nonoffending parent cope with the life changes precipitated by violence and abuse.
