Obituaries Louis Gulfo Mr. Gulfo, 84, of Red Bank, died Feb. 27 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. He had been a resident of Red Bank for the past 51 years. Mr. Gulfo was an insurance executive at American Risk Management, Fort Lee, for several years, retiring in 1987. He was also the owner and captain of two boats based in Brielle. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War, and was an officer in the Navy ROTC. He was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Mr. Gulfo is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Holmes Gulfo; a son, Richard L. Gulfo of Freehold; a daughter, Lynn E. Sullivan of Fairport, N.Y.; and two grandchildren. Visitation will be held March 2 from 7-9 p.m. at the Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated March 3 at 10:15 a.m. at St. James Church, followed by entombment at Mount Olivet Cemetery Mausoleum, Middletown.
Florence Winnifred McCartney Mrs. McCartney, 88, of Red Bank, died Feb. 14 at Sunrise Assisted Living, Lincroft section of Middletown. Born in East Pittsburgh, Pa., she resided in Chester and Norwood, Pa., Tinton Falls, and Barnegat Light, prior to moving to Red Bank in 2000. She was a retired admitting supervisor at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, from 1969-79. Prior to that, she was employed at Sun Oil Refinery, Philadelphia, during the early 1940s. She served as a WAVE in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Pharmacist’s Mate 3rd Class in Charleston, S.C. She was a longtime member of The United Methodist Church of Red Bank. She was a Girl Scout leader. She was predeceased by her husband, Earl Norman McCartney in 1978; and two sisters, Dorothy Wilson in 1983, and Irene Wilson Burns in 1984. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lianna and Larry Fermi of Red Bank. A memorial service was held at The United Methodist Church. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Harland Lamar “Butch” Miller Jr. Mr. Miller, 83, of Little Silver, died Feb. 15 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Cleveland, he relocated to Monmouth County more than 50 years ago. He was a retired executive at Merchandising Consultants and Volume Inc. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War, achieving rank of Captain. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Red Bank. He enjoyed fishing, and fished in the Master’s Invitational Sailfish Tournament, Palm Beach, Fla., several times. He was an avid fan and attended games for the Giants, Yankees and Rangers. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lane “Bay” Miller; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia Pauels of Aliso Viejo, Calif.; Robin and Russell Hardt of Newport Beach, Calif.; and Tracey and Walter Schulein of Little Egg Harbor; a son and daughter-in-law, Harland L. and Angela Miller III of Williston, Vt.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Frederick “Fred” I. Louis Mr. Louis, 79, of Oceanport, died Feb. 19 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Johnstown, Pa., he resided in Middletown before moving to Oceanport. Before his retirement, Mr. Louis was vice president of sales at Clark’s of England, Hanover, Pa. He served with the U.S. Army under Gen. George S. Patton during World War II and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2140, Long Branch. Mr. Louis was predeceased by a son, Andrew Louis, in 1994. He is survived by his wife, Janet A. Louis; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary I. and Linda Louis of Keyport, and Greg and Susan Louis of Sayreville; a daughter and son-in-law, Tami and Armand Crupi of Freehold; six grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren. Interment took place at Beth Kehillah Cemetery, Egg Harbor Township. The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements. Patrick Mark Gilvary Mr. Gilvary, 61, of Parlin, died Feb. 20 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Long Branch, he resided in Fair Haven 25 years, prior to moving to Parlin five years ago. He was a registered architect and professional planner at Gilvary Associates of Red Bank, since 1971. He enjoyed golf, and was a member of the rules committee of the New Jersey State Golf Association. He also enjoyed poker. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Edna Piper Gilvary; two sons and daughters-in-law, T. Shannon and Kandy Gilvary of Hazlet, and Michael and Christine Gilvary of Los Angeles; a brother, Michael Gilvary of South Carolina; a sister, Kathleen Gilvary of Monmouth Beach; a sister-in-law, Theresa Gilvary of Ocean; and three grandchildren. Marjorie Brower Curtis Mrs. Curtis, 95, of Rumson, and formerly of the Belford section of Middletown, died Feb. 14 at home. She was born in Raritan Township. Mrs. Curtis was a retired file clerk at Bell Labs, Holmdel, where she was employed more than 15 years. She is survived by a daughter, Marjorie Glisson of Atlantic Highlands; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Arrangements were by the Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank.
Lucy Scott Hilton Mrs. Hilton, 85, of Sea Bright, died Feb. 22 at home. Born in Eau Claire, Wis., she resided in South Orange, Allenhurst, West Long Branch, and Rumson, prior to moving to Sea Bright in 1988. She was an administrative assistant at Riverview Hospital’s Mental Health Clinic for 20 years. She was a parishioner for 50 years at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Rumson. She was a volunteer at the Monmouth Association for Retarded Children, and Lunch Break, Red Bank. She was predeceased by her husband, John in 2002. She is survived by her children, John Hilton of New York, Sarah Hilton and Judith Hilton, both of Sea Bright, Mark Hilton of the Locust section of Middletown, Lucy Minder of Maine, Peter Hilton of Rumson, Rev. Hank Hilton of Baltimore, and Jamie Hilton of Rhode Island; and 12 grandchildren. A Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at Holy Cross Church. Julia Frances Moeller Mrs. Moeller, 89, of Little Silver, died Feb. 25 at Navesink Harbor, Red Bank. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had resided there, the Bronx, N.Y., and Fair Haven before moving to Little Silver. Mrs. Moeller was a homemaker. Prior to that, she was employed at New York Life Insurance Co. Her memberships included the Daughters of the American Revolution, Little Silver Woman’s Club, and Monmouth Museum, Lincroft section of Middletown. She received a Prestigious Service Award for her volunteer work with United Cerebral Palsy. She was also a Cub Scout den mother. Mrs. Moeller is survived by two daughters, Anne Bicker and Mary Moeller; two sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Mary Jane Moeller, and Thomas and Karen Moeller; and four grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank, followed by entombment at Mount Olivet Mausoleum, Middletown. The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements.
Gerard Marciano Mr. Marciano, 84, of Spotswood, died Feb. 7 in Saint Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Surviving are his wife, Lorraine Horn Marciano; three sons, Gerard Marciano of Jackson, Mark Marciano of South River and Michael Marciano of Cranbury; two daughters, Claudia LeBedz of Lakewood and Virginia Korth of Orange Park, Fla.; a sister, Theresa D’Amato of Eatontown; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
