Admissions, WWII talks offered by Brookdale

Brookdale Community College will hold instant admissions and express registration days for fall classes Aug. 1 and 24 at Brookdale's Bayshore Higher Education Center, 311 Laurel Ave., West Keansburg section of Hazlet, (732) 787-0019.

The admissions and registration will also be held Aug. 14 and 15 at Long Branch Higher Education Center, 213 Broadway (732) 229-8440. Times will be 11 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Classes begin Sept. 7. The services enable students to apply, be tested if necessary and see a counselor on select dates.

The college's "World War II Studies" program series will begin Oct. 19 at noon and 7:30 p.m. with talks by historians and professors Scott Bennett, Georgian Court University, Lakewood, and Laura Neitzel, Brookdale. The individuals will discuss and debate the use of the Atomic Bombs in 1945 to end World War II. The talk will be at Warner Student Life Center, Newman Springs Road, Lincroft section of Middletown. Author Mark Ellison will discuss his book "Dear Mom, Dad, and Ethel: World War II Through the Eyes of a Radio Man" Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m.

A program on "Air Raid Pearl Harbor" will be Nov. 6 at 9:30 a.m., recounted by two survivors, Ralph Jeffers and Tom Mahoney. "Homeland Defense - World War II" will be Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. Former air wardens Jack Meehan, Walter Wasilewski and Bernard Weinstein will give the presentation. "FDR and the Historic 1940 Political Campaign" will be presented by Tom Cioppa, Brookdale professor, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
