RED BANK - Three new officers were appointed to the borough police department to fill positions left open by some recent retirements and resignations.

The new probationary patrolmen were sworn in at the July 24 meeting of the Red Bank Borough Council, with friends and family of the officers present.

George Travostino graduated from the Monmouth County Police Academy in June. He is a graduate of Cook College and reported to his probationary position on June 25.

John Camarca, a borough resident, had worked as a dispatcher for the department for three years before accepting a position with the Brookdale Community College Police Department.

Camarca also graduated the academy in June and will begin work as a probationary patrolman on Aug. 1. He is a graduate of West Chester University.

Thomas Doremus, a lifelong resident of the borough, has worked as a dispatcher with the department for more than two years. He will begin attending the academy in August and start as a probationary patrolman on Aug. 15.

"We've said this time and time again," said Mayor Edward J. McKenna Jr. after the three were sworn in, "but I really do believe we have one of the best police departments in the state. I am glad to welcome these three men."
