Catholic Charities, Diocese of Trenton, announced that Little Silver attorney R. Scott Garley (center) is the recipient of this year's Monmouth County Light of Hope Award. He will receive the award at the annual Guardian Angel Dinner Dance on Sept. 29 at the Hyatt Regency in Princeton. The fundraising gala honors individuals for their commitment to serve the community's poor and vulnerable. Francis E. Dolan, executive director of Catholic Charities, called Garley "a light of hope over the years to those we serve."
He is a longtime member of the Monmouth County Advisory Board of Catholic Charities and a board member and past president of Spring House, a transitional home and educational program for homeless women and their children in Eatontown. On June 8, CPC Behavioral Healthcare hosted its 18th annual Spring Invitational Golf Tournament at Hollywood Golf Club, Ocean Township, and raised over $65,000 to support children and families in emotional crisis. At the invitational, golfers heard golf pro Peter Kostis (above), one of the game's most respected teachers, share his insights. Kostis, CBS sports commentator, gave a humorous golf demo, illustrating each shot with a mistake and explaining why the ball bounced, dribbled and skipped off the tee. Kostis proceeded to describe the essence of the perfect golf swing and some of his unwritten rules of the game. Leading with the lowest gross score of 64 was the foursome led by Maury Povich, of Middletown, including Rob Wolf, of New York, Ned Steiner, of Roseland, and Ray Pearman, of Fair Haven.
