The Oceanport Parks and Recreation committee will host the borough's "Summer's End Festival" on Sept. 9 at 5 p.m. at Blackberry Bay Park. The event will feature face-painting, spin art, sand art, kids moon bounces, karate and dance demonstrations, relay races and food. There will also be live performances by Hollander, Broad Banned and Saturday Nite Fever, and the evening will conclude with a fireworks display by Garden State Fireworks. The free event is being sponsored by Monmouth Medical Center - St. Barnabas Health Care System, the Oceanport Parks and Recreation committee and resident donors. Frequently, abused and neglected children are taken from their homes and placed into temporary foster care because their parents cannot, or will not, take care of them. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Monmouth trains volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in court and help them find safe, permanent homes where they can thrive. On Friday, HABcore will sponsor its ninth annual gala, "A Night on the Navesink," at the Oyster Point Hotel in Red Bank.

The Navesink Garden Club will be celebrating its 60th anniversary with a Standard Flower Show on Sept. 13 from noon to 4 p.m. at Trinity Church Parish Hall on White Street, Red Bank.

The event is open to the public and will include 50 horticulture classes and six design classes plus challenge class and educational exhibits.

The annual End of Summer Party for the Sandy Hook Foundation will be held on Friday, Sept. 8, at the North Beach Pavilion. The event raises money to support the programs and projects of the foundation, including restoration and preservation projects. Sen. Joe Kyrillos has designated his district office as a collection point for Operation DVD, a nationwide campaign to collect movie DVDs and music CDs that will be sent to soldiers in war zones where safe recreation is limited because of snipers, IEDs and other terrorist activity. The Educational Services Commission/Monmouth Adult Education Commission (ESC/MAECOM) Adult High School, 100 Tornillo Way, Tinton Falls, is now holding registration for its free adult high school diploma program that offers students a locally issued diploma following completion of requirements.

Students enrolling in the program during September will receive $50 credit toward any fall-term MAECOM course. Courses include computer training, foreign languages, and woodworking, and classes are held day and evening, year-round.
