Wanted: Tech gurus for volunteer position
BY LINDA DeNICOLA
Staff Writer

Tinton Falls
TINTON FALLS - If you have a technical background and are looking for an opportunity to serve the community, this is your chance. A Technical Advisory Committee recently created by the borough needs members.

The newly formed committee will consist of six members, four regular members and two alternates, plus a member of the Borough Council who will act as the council's liaison.

The committee members will choose the chairman, vice chairman and secretary, which is in line with the way other committees in Tinton Falls elect officers, said Councilman Michael Skudera.

The Planning and Zoning boards and Open Space Committee will each choose their own chairman, vice chairman and secretary and they will each have a council liaison.

The positions are open because the mayor and council have not appointed any members yet, Skudera said.

He explained that the committee will be advisory only, but members' recommendations and insights will help implement new technologies that could automate and improve the borough.

Some of the upcoming projects that the Technical Advisory Committee could assist with are the phone system for the new borough hall and helping to plan for a new computer network.

It would be an important initial project for the committee to help survey the needs of the borough and its departments, and prepare a report to the mayor and council with its recommendations.

He said that the council will be voting on a shared-services agreement with the school board in September.

"If approved, this agreement will allow the school board and the borough to share two employees who will help maintain the computer systems. They could also assist the Technology Advisory Committee with its survey.

"Investing in new technologies can help save money and increase productivity," Skudera said.

Residents who are interested and have a background in technology are encouraged to e-mail the borough administrator at administrator@tintonfalls.com with their information.
