Women voters' leagues elect officers

The Monmouth County Inter-League Organization of the League of Women Voters elected the following officers at its 38th annual meeting: president, Esther Greenberg; vice-president, Marie Curtis; secretary, Wilma Quantrille; treasurer, Don Curtis; and directors, Zena Gurman, Elaine Anderson, Louise Usechak, Janet Ferrante, Mary Hand, Sharon Steinhorn and Mary Andrews.

The speaker at the meeting was Joe Marmora, president and executive director of Interfaith Neighbors, who talked about his organization that provides housing and meals to those in need in Monmouth County.

The Inter-League Organization comprises members from the three local leagues in Monmouth County: greater Red Bank area, township of Ocean and Western Monmouth.

Members observe Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders and Planning Board meetings and serve on the county's Community Development Block Grant Program, Solid Waste Advisory Committee and the county Environmental Commission.

The league also testifies on county issues based on positions derived from grassroots level study and consensus, holds forums on issues of county interest, moderates candidates' meetings for county office and conducts voter registration drives.

The league's purpose is to promote political responsibility through informed and active citizen participation in government. It is nonpartisan; it neither supports nor opposes any political party or candidate. The league does take action in supporting or opposing governmental issues on which it has a position, which has been derived from membership consensus following impartial study.
