Stories pieced together in fabric

"Trees at Morning Light"
An exhibit of fiber collages by fiber artist Pamela Burke will be at the Oceanic Library in Rumson throughout October.

Burke's fiber art has been featured in national and local museum and gallery shows such as the Women in Textile Art International Biennial, the International Quilt Festival, the New Jersey State Quilt Convention, the Art Alliance of Monmouth County, the Monmouth Festival of the Arts, and the Monmouth Museum.

In an artist statement, Burke describes her collage designs as "simple and playful, piecing together bits of this and that with free-motion stitching techniques to tell a story.

"You'll notice many unbound edges in my work; I attempt to represent the good life as I see it - untidy, unfinished and unusual."

About a dozen collages are included in the library exhibit of works by the Middletown artist, who is also a writer and creativity coach whose clients include writers, glass artisans, fiber and mixed media artists, photographers and painters. In the library's display case, the work of local jeweler Diane Pettineo is displayed.
