During the week of Oct. 16- 22, some of New Jersey's best bakeries will team up for CancerCare's third annual Cupcakes for a Cause, selling cupcakes of all flavors and sizes with all proceeds benefiting CancerCare for Kids, a nonprofit that provides free professional support services for children affected by cancer.

Sen. Ellen Karcher (D, Mercer and Monmouth) will be the featured speaker at an event to help residents of Mercer and Monmouth counties understand how to view claims, track their out-of-pocket expenses on prescription drugs, and get copies of the explanation of Medicare Benefits.

Prevention First, a Monmouth County nonprofit organization, hosted the return of the wildly successful seventh annual ChessFest 2006. Held Sept. 30, on Asbury Park's 5th Avenue Boardwalk, the event was hosted by the nonprofit agency Prevention First and more than 100 children participated and spent the afternoon testing their skills against the ChessFest chess masters.

The First United Methodist Church of Sea Bright has kicked off its Fall/Holiday Food Drive to benefit the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Food donations are being collected at the church, located at 1102 Ocean Ave. (corner of Church Street) for the entire month of October, and can be dropped off on its porch anytime this month.

Seniors of Little Silver will meet Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the clubhouse on Church Street at 1 p.m. Nancy Malone, a floral designer for Sickles Market, will demonstrate how to construct an autumn floral arrangement. Pumpkins, greenery, flowers, etc., will be provided along with instruction on how to create a design. Cost for materials is $6 and must be paid by Oct. 16.
