Oceanport police get $30K for computer upgrades

OCEANPORT -- The borough of Oceanport Police Department has received $30.000 in federal funds to upgrade computer systems.

Receipt of the grant was announced last week by Rep. Rush Holt (R-12), Oceanport Mayor Lucille Chaump and Oceanport Police Chief Harold Sutton.

"I am delighted to have been able to help Oceanport's Police Department make this critical upgrade," said Holt in a press release. "When technology allows us to put more officers on the streets, our communities are more safe."

The upgrades will allow Oceanport's Police Department to incorporate all reports received from officers electronically, thereby reducing the time it takes a police officer to complete a report and improve information-sharing.

The time saved on paperwork will free up officers to spend more time patrolling the community, according to Holt.

"This software will help us save about 50 percent of our report time, which will help us put our guys out on the road more instead of being tied up at headquarters," Sutton said in the release.

Chaump added, "We thank Congressman Holt for getting this grant so that our officers can spend less time at their desks and more time policing the borough."
